How to Clean Your Diamond Jewelry at Home

Diamonds may be the hardest natural substance on Earth, but they still need regular cleaning to maintain their brilliant sparkle. Here's how to safely clean your diamond jewelry at home.

Important Note: Not all gemstones are treated the same! Porous stones like opals, pearls, and turquoise should never be soaked.

The Warm Soapy Water Method

Mix warm water with a few drops of mild dish soap. Soak your diamond jewellery for 20-30 minutes, then gently scrub with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Pay special attention to the areas behind the diamond where dirt accumulates.

What to Avoid

Never use harsh chemicals like bleach or chlorine. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could scratch the metal setting. Don't use ultrasonic cleaners on jewelry with fracture-filled diamonds or significant inclusions.

Professional Cleaning Schedule

While home cleaning is great for regular maintenance, have your diamond jewelry professionally cleaned and inspected at least once a year. Jewelers can check prong security and deep clean areas you can't reach.
